Step Into Calling

OK, You're Sober. Now What?
Isaiah 6:8 — “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, 'Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?' And I said, 'Here am I. Send me!'”
Sober means "correct thinking" or in the right state of mind. Yes it means abstaining from bad behaviors and patterns but it's bigger than that. It's seeing yourself the way God created you. It's saying in humility... "I was created for His greatness."
You’re Out—Now Step In
God didn’t just pull you out of something. He pulled you into something.
You’ve been rescued. Redeemed. You’ve survived a battle most people don’t understand. But freedom isn’t the finish line—it’s the starting line. God has a calling on your life. And that calling will stretch you, challenge you, and call you out of your comfort zone.
Why? Because you’re not just free from something—you’re free for something.
Pray for Opportunities—And the Courage to Say Yes
Pray this:
“Lord, give me eyes to see the doors You are opening. Give me the courage to say yes—even when it scares me. Especially when it challenges my comfort zone. Help me to want Your will more than I want to stay safe. I trust You more than I trust my fears.”
God answers these kinds of prayers. But be ready: the opportunity might look like inconvenience. The door might open in the middle of a storm. Don’t miss your assignment because it didn’t come packaged in comfort.
Your Comfort Zone Is the Casualty Zone
Every time God called someone in Scripture, He disrupted their comfort:
Moses had a stutter.
Gideon was hiding.
Esther had privilege to lose.
Peter had a reputation.
God doesn’t call the comfortable. He calls the willing. And the more you step into what He’s calling you to do, the more accountability you will have.
You’ve proven before that you might let yourself down—and that may scare you. You may not fully trust yourself. But now you’re committing to a bigger mission. When you step up, you’re not just showing up for yourself anymore. You’re showing up for someone else’s breakthrough.
Burn the Ships. Burn the Bridge to Relapse.
No backup plan. No escape hatch. No “just in case” thinking.
God’s brought you into a new land, and you can’t go back. That addiction? That habit? That fear? It wasn’t a friend—it was a weapon formed against you.
As I told a well-known artist battling alcoholism:
“Drinking was the weapon formed specifically to kill you. It wasn’t just about destruction—it was about stealing your fruit, delaying your purpose, and leaving you empty until you were dead. You’ve tried to make peace with it. But it’s not offering peace. It’s only offering death. You have to declare war. Tell it, tell the world, and tell your flesh—I will spend the rest of my life serving God at war with this thing. And you will walk in full freedom.”
You Don’t Fight in Your Own Strength
You might not feel ready. That’s okay.
You might not feel strong enough. That’s okay too.
2 Corinthians 12:9 — “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.”
You are not stepping into this calling with your own power. It is His power working in you and through you.
You Don’t Pick the Ministry—God Does
This isn’t a career path. It’s a kingdom assignment. And in the kingdom, we don’t tell the King where we want to go.
We say, “Yes, Lord. Wherever You lead.”
You’ve been enlisted into service. He is the Commander in Chief. And telling the Commander when, where, and how you’ll serve isn’t just prideful—it disqualifies you from the next level.
Say yes. Step up. This is holy ground.
Discussion Questions
Use these for reflection or group discussion:
What is one area of your life where God may be calling you out of your comfort zone? What’s stopping you from saying yes?
Have you been waiting for God to use you in ways that feel safe or familiar? How would your “yes” change if you let go of needing comfort?
What are some ways you've tried to make peace with something that God is calling you to declare war on?
Do you believe that God knows what He is doing with your life—even when it doesn’t make sense? What would full surrender look like?
How has accountability helped (or could help) you stay committed to your calling, even when it's hard?
Are you willing to burn the ships—to remove the safety nets that keep you from going all in with God? What would that look like this week?
Declaration Prayer
“Father, I am Yours. I trust Your plan more than I trust my own. I step out of fear and into faith. I burn the ships behind me. I say yes to Your call—wherever it leads. Not by my strength, but by Your Spirit, I will follow You. I declare war on anything that tries to steal my freedom or delay my purpose. I belong to You. I am ready. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
